Dan Portnoy, Author of The Non-Profit Narrative

In the attached videos, I am chatting with Dan Portnoy of Portnoy Media Group who has also just published his first book, The Non-Profit Narrative.

I met Dan through Cheryl Hyatt Smith at Liz Strauss‘s SOBCon upon first moving to Chicago.  And I heard about Liz through Jason Alba, author of “I’m on Linkedin, now what?  when I was reading the book in ’98 in an attempt to make “pre-move” connections.  After I read Jason’s book, I reached out, told him I got a lot out of it and asked him to make Chicago connections.

And that’s how I know Dan.  And we met in real life at SXSW last year in Austin.  And that’s my home town.  The end.

Good story, huh?

“It’s all about stories”, Dan says.  In the above video, I’m talking to him about his upcoming book release, the importance of non-profits and charities to show (and not just tell) their audience their story and 5 tips for non-profits when hiring a filmaker in the video below.

Like music and commentary?  Dan also hosts a fun and  free music podcast at TheDropOnline.com.  Check out our JenChat about how to get started making a podcast show here.

  1. Hi, Dan

We have interests in common, that’s for sure. I used to know a Dan Portnoy when I lived in Chicago, you wouldn’t by any chance be him?

I am also wondering if your book would be helpful in fundraising using social media?
