Would you ride a camel? Would you RACE a camel?
I did both a few months ago at Hawthorne Race Course and as I am going through the video clips I never produced in 2011, I found this. Unfortunately, I didn’t remember to charge my camcorder battery before I left, so I didn’t get any footage of the actual race, so you’re gonna have to take my word for it. Or watch the full event coverage video by Agency 360 below.
The point is… In my book, if someone asks me if I wanna try a new adventure, my answer is almost always “I thought you’d never ask!”
Sure. Foley (my camel parter) had me hoisted about 7 feet in the air and took off like a bat outta hell from the starting gate.
Sure. I feared for my safety and said a number of impromptu prayers as Foley crazily galloped along- at what felt to be approximately 85 mph.
And sure… I was walking funny for days later, after clenching every muscle in my body for about 30 seconds…
But, BOY- was it an experience! One I’ll never forget. One that became the center of conversation for weeks afterwards. One that reminded me what a cool, fun and tough chick I really am.
And since I can officially scratch ”Race a camel” off the list, I’m ready for another adventure. And the next and the next. And for me, that’s what it’s all about. Exploring. Stepping out of my comfort zone. Feeling scared. Doing it anyway. Seeing what I’m really made of, and being grateful for the entire experience.
In the words of Helen Keller, “Life is either a great adventure or nothing.”
I’ll go with the first one. Though I’m still not sure what the rubber chickens were all about.
