Lost and Found: Chicago Taxi Cabs

As I got in the cab, I remember thinking “Whoa, these seats are dark. Don’t forget to check to make sure you have it all when you get out.” I was on my way to drop off the black bag (housing the wireless and very expensive microphone and system that a friend let me borrow) and a little gift for the loan. When I arrived at The Joynt, Friday night, I saw some people that I knew standing outside. I excitedly told them “Hi!” as I paid the cab driver. I got out of the cab, went inside and up the stairs. As I started talking to Erich, my mouth dropped open in the realization that I had left the (over a thousand dollar) borrowed mic in the cab. I didn’t get the cab number or even the cab type. I’m not even sure about the color. I thought the cab was white. One of the guys standing outside thought yellow.
I have every reason to believe that the microphone and wireless system will be returned to me and then to its rightful owner, Steve. People are good. Things always work out as they should.
I read once that the only thing missing from any situation is what you (meaning us) are not giving. So, I am looking for what this experience may be trying to teach me. Then, the idea hit me that if there were one centralized place with pictures of most of the cabs in downtown Chicago (with contact information), others could use my research and effort for themselves. Whether they needed to recover their misplaced items, send a nice note to the cab company, or any other reason one might want pictures of Chicago taxis. Feel free to add to the list or suggest taxi cabs that I may have missed.

As a Professional-Camera-Misplacer this post is very helpful! Something I did with my current camera that I suggest everyone does: Write down your name and cell phone number with the phrase: **REWARD FOR THE RETURN OF THIS CAMERA OR MEMORY CARD** and take a photo with your camera. You should take the picture with the memory card out of the camera so it is saved on the camera instead of the memory card. Protect the picture so it can’t be accidentally deleted and set it as your camera’s welcome screen. Whenever someone turns on your camera they will see your info and hopefully return your camera or memory card!

I too lost my phone on NYE. I have no idea what color that cab either. I am in despreate need of finding my phone. There were some very setimental texts and pics in the phone that are very hard to part with. It is an HTC HD2 with a pinkish purple case and if you look at the back of the case you can see a yellow peice of paper through the case with a couple of web addresses on it. If found there will be a small reward.
I lost my Blackberry Curve 8330 with Verizon service. It has a black cover on top. Cant remember the cab company or the driver #. Trying to locate a lost black Motorola Droid (Verizon). The battery is most likely dead at this point but if it will power up, it has a photo of a baby as the background. It was lost in a cab at the 1900 block of West George Street, do not recall the cab company. My mobile defense showed the last location at 4104 N. Pulaski, which is a bar but no one that worked there had seen it.

I lost a set of keys on new years eve around 2am cant remember what cab i took or the number. Took the cab on western and diversey to lincoln and bryn mawr. I misplaced my Sony Cyber-shot digital camera in a cab early Sunday morning…around 2:45am. The cab driver and I had a conversation about my horrible night with my sisters and he was quite sympathetic
Of course, to top off the evening I believe I left my camera in the backseat! I kind of remember the cab being a prius or a car of that shape and not the usual sedan. I guess I am hoping that cab drives check this site if they find anything, so that I can hopefully get back all the memories from that lovely night! I left a red backpack in the back of a cab that dropped me off on the 1800 block of West Larchmont on Friday night (Feb 4th). I left my precious black wool driving glove w/ touch screen finger tips (right hand in flash cab #3410 at approx 545am 2/9/11. Please remember, when riding in a cab, get either a receipt or business card from the cab driver. Then you will have the cab company name and possibly the drivers name. Then check for loose belongings in the back seat or the trunk area.

LOST: small rolling bag in the trunk of a white or cream colored cab on Sunday Jan 30 at 9:47pm at the Fairmont Hotel basement entrance. Bag is black w/ telescoping handle, black skateboard wheels, shoulder straps (may or may not be attached). Red/silver circular arrow logo/emblem on the bag made by Burton.
Driver was nice man from Nepal who has been driving in Chicago for approx 8 years.
Contents include: 2 apple laptops, 2 pr sunglasses, 2 spiral notebooks, 1 pr brown shoes, lots of pprwk/forms from my company THE BOAT LOCKER.
