It’s not for sissies, that’s for sure- and it’s even a bit humbling being the smallest boat on the water… BUT if you’re up for the adventure, kayaking on one of the prettiest rivers in the world might be just the new perspective you were looking for! Kayak Chicago, Baby!
The beautiful river that flows through Chicago has a rich and fascinating history. Back in the 1800′s Chicagoans were becoming ill with outbreaks of typhoid and other water-borne diseases. The Sanitary District of Chicago devised a plan to reverse the flow of river and though there were numerous economic and political setbacks, the river was permanently reversed in 1900, using a series of canal locks. You can find out more about the reversal from the book “The Chicago River: a natural and unnatural history“, by author Libby Hill and you can even join Friends of The Chicago River here.
