If you’re in the hospitality industry and  wanna learn about social media but you’ve been scurred, come to Social Media ain’t that scary Monday the 18th at The Joynt.  I’ll be on a panel with some other geniuses- get it- that makes me a genius.  Anyway- we’re gonna be spilling it.  All our secrets.  Then we’re gonna network, drink and most importantly dance- well I probably will.  Price doubles at the door so grab tickets with the link on the JenChicago FB page.  Hat or costumes, are of course, encouraged.

That’s it for this episode.  I’m on all the usual social and I certainly don’t know everything.  So, let me know to me what’s shakin in Chicago for next week and I’ll try to include it in the show.  Until next time, Here’s the question of the week?

Please let me know what’s shaking in Chicago next week and I’ll try to put it on the show, along with your responses to the questions of the day (hint: it’s at the end of the video)

#LunchBunch goes to India House!

@JenChicago meets up with @TheLocalTourist @Houseonahillorg @interactiveAmy and @MarniLevine at India House in downtown Chicago for their monthly Lunch-up!

Day #29: Getting bang’ed, Berry Chill and pretty colors…

I’m like that person in a race that is drooling and running kinda crooked but somehow still upright.  This “video every day business” is kinda intense- and with travel, work and plain ol’ life it can feel like a big chore…. but not today.  ‘Cause I just rambled today.  Rambling is fun.  Samson seems to like it.

Day #2: How long do you wait for someone?

My advice?  Always have a book with you!

“Tweetups” are all the rage, bringing people together from every industry. There are two things these people have in common: they’re in Chicago, and they tell everyone where they are and what they’re doing.

This summer The Local Tourist, JenChicago, and Mr. Tweetup are hosting a tweetup with a twist. The hosts are among Chicago’s most influential Social Media personalities and they love the Windy City so much they want to encourage everyone to be “Local Tourists”.

The TLTweetup will host 120 Chicagoans on the Free Spirit Luxury Yacht for a night of networking on Lake Michigan, complete with food and beer, wine and soda, and every guest will receive a goody bag filled with offers from local attractions, restaurants, and things to do, inviting them to be tourists in their own city. And since it’s a tweetup, everyone on board this three hour tour will be posting on Twitter and Facebook throughout the night.

You can get your gift certificate or discount offer in the hands of this incredibly social group by including goodies in their gift bags. Inclusion is only $100, and in addition to leaving a lasting impression with 120 of Chicago’s Social Media influencers, you’ll also receive:

About the hosts:

Theresa Carter is an Emmy winning blogger and the founder of The Local Tourist: Chicago’s Neighborhood Website. Her job is to make sure Chicagoans get the most out of this amazing city, and she’s hosted several sold-out events that are all about helping locals feel like tourists. She tells people where to go in Chicago, and they listen!”

Jen Knoedl is the Executive Producer of JenChicago Productions and is a licensed funologist. Though not a native Chicagoan, Jen is determined to do it all, while capturing as much of the fun and exploration by video. From emceeing events, to guest hosting on NBC’s 24/7 Chicago… it’s definitely HER kinda town!

Sami Ari, or Social Sami, is known as Mr. Tweetup in Chicago. Using his personal network in Chicago’s Twitter community, he hosts monthly “tweetups” with attendees ranging from 100 to 200 “tweeps” consisting of lawyers, doctors, traditional and new media folks and entertainment promoters – the people who truly create buzz in Chicago. Recent tweetups include the Roof at the Wit hotel and Vertigo Sky Lounge at the Dana Hotel. The buzz extends beyond the event: each tweetup’s page receives 5,000 average page views!

“My Kung Fu is Stronger Than Yours”: A Social Media Bootcamp

JenChicago, NBC Chicago Street Team

So, I’m at SOBcon for the second year in a row this past summer and I’m meeting all kinds of cool and great people, and I meet David D. “Griff” Griffin. And he’s cool and great too! He’s talking about creating a social media bootcamp for everybody looking to leverage this style of marketing.  We all agreed it should happen.

Well, David didn’t waste any time and began planning right away!  He was then incredibly wise in asking yours truly to present.  Yes!  Video Revolution will be every bit as exciting as is sounds!

And back to David… He and his team use social media to make all the necessary connections, announcements and arrangements… Next thing you know, “Voila”, we have a conference this weekend entitled “My Kung Fu is Stronger Than Yours“.

Hmm… it’s a cool name, but what does it mean? Stick around to watch me call David and have him explain. Long story short, if you like the idea of learning about social media as if it were water coming out of a fire hydrant, then you should definitely consider coming this weekend.  Plus there’s just no substitute for the face-to-face connections you’ll make. So do it already… click here.

So, you know I’m gonna leave you with some ways to find me through social media here, right?

A gift for Mom: Twitter in a nutshell

JenChicago, NBC5 Street Team

All my life my mom has been an exceptional educator. I know that had a HUGE effect on my life! Among other things, Mom definitely gave me a strong appreciation for reading. I’m a regular bookworm and I love it! Now that social media is becoming more prevalent, I find myself becoming an educator, of sorts, for my family and friends. In honor of my mother, I offer to you a little “mom-themed” video on how to get started with Twitter.

Moms rock and we KNOW it! Happy Mother’s Day!
